Meet your representatives
My name is Leanne Armstrong and I am standing for the Linwood College School Board of Trustees, School profile number 337. I have a son in year 9 who attends Linwood College. Having previous experience as a member of the Board of Trustees for Aranui Primary I know I have the experience required for such a role. I believe in allowing every child the opportunity to achieve their full potential and as a Board Member I believe this would be a great opportunity to see this happen at Linwood College. I do enjoy a challenge and I am not afraid to ask the hard questions to help get our children the right environment to be in too achieve their full potential and personal goals. For me personally, I would like the opportunity to be a part of the Linwood College School Board of Trustees because I enjoy being involved in my community. I am a very approachable person who is proactive and would like all members of the Linwood College Community to know that if they have any questions or concerns I am happy to discuss them with them and then find solutions to resolve any issues in a way where everyone is happy with the outcome. I am employed as an Office/Accounts Manager this position gives me a lot of experience in dealing with figures and communicating this information which is very beneficial in a School Board environment as this knowledge helps with decision making in regard to school expenditure and finances. I work well in a team environment and look forward to being a part of Linwood Colleges innovative and exciting future. I thank you for taking the time to read my candidate statement.
The greater Linwood area is of great importance to me, having lived in the area my whole life. Being a student of the early '90's I remember Linwood High being a good school, with a great balance between education, sport and the arts. I want to see the School become the first choice option for all in the area again. I have served the last 8 years on the Board of one the contributing schools and I am passionate about making strong links with the local primary schools, easing the transition between Primary and High school. I see the years 7 & 8 as crucial not only in this transition but also to introduce and excite the students about what subjects and options are available to them in their future schooling.
My name is Finlay Laird and I am standing for the Linwood College Board of Trustees.
I was first elected to the Board in 2013 and have been the Board Chair for the past sixteen months.
Over this time the Board has initiated many positive changes at our school, and it is now in a strong position to serve our community. Linwood College is a very viable choice for families and a result we are seeing an increase in the school roll. When a teaching vacancy arises, we are attracting quality candidates for the position.
The current board has worked well together however a few of the current Trustees are not standing
again. I hope to be re-elected to provide continuity as there is much going on at a governance level
and the Board will need Trustee experience and knowledge of important projects such as the school
rebuild.
The school has made positive changes to teaching practices and pastoral care with a focus on building good relationships.
No two students are the same, so we must do what works best for each student to see they achieve the best that they can.
It is rewarding as a Trustee to put in place positive changes and I seek your vote to continue in this role for the next three years.
I wish to be able to help the school in granting the skills and knowledge required by our kids and their peers for the years to come. We all know that the coming years for these kids is going to be tough, but with enough help they will be able to get through it all. I come from a small family and we Foster two boys, who have become the best (well second to wife) things that have happened to my life.. We have two cats, five birds, and two dogs that co live with the four of us.

All peoples, all voices, all the many relations from the four winds, I greet you all.
My name is Nathan; or as my friends refer to me, Nate.
I was co-opted to the Board of Trustees in 2017 due to my interests in finding a way for whānau and Linwood College to instill a sense of whanaungatanga (relationship, kinship, sense of family connection - a relationship through shared experiences and working together which provides people with a sense of belonging)
With this connection and belonging, there is respect; support; equality; empathy and many other positive aspects that our tamariki and we as parents would experience and share in a safe environment. A safe environment, not just physically but also emotionally is what our children need to grow, learn and develop.
He aha te mea nui o te ao. He tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata
What is the most important thing in the world? It is people, it is people, it is people.
Our children are important and deserve a fulfilling life.
My oldest and youngest children have and currently, attend Linwood College respectively. My son Orion is a year 13 student and a current Prefect. I have seen him grow into a fine young man and have been proud of his immense achievements on a pathway that Linwood College has been able to provide. I have always advised him that the pathway lays before him, it is up to him to begin is hikoi and stay the path as best as he can.
I would like the opportunity once again to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees, part of a dedicated team to help build and maintain that safe, inclusive and supportive pathway not only just for your child but for you as a parent/caregiver.
